Answers to questions we are frequently asked

Are you part of an association? Do you issue receipts for insurance?

Yes! We are both members of the Ordre des Acupuncteurs du Québec and we issue receipts for acupuncture treatments.

Do you reuse needles?

No! The needles used are all sterile and single-use.

How long does an appointment last?

An appointment takes approximately one hour. If this is a first meeting, it is possible to take a little more time, but this is not systematically the case. In acupuncture for children, initially plan for one hour, though treatment is adapted based on the reason for consultation and the tools used, and session duration may vary depending on these factors.

Do you only use needles?

No! Several tools can be used in acupuncture. Treatment may include cupping, moxa (a heated mugwort stick), guasha (jade stone), ‘push pins’ (small stickers holding a tiny needle), magnets, electropuncture or an electromagnetic lamp. Don’t hesitate to ask your acupuncturist for more details!

Do needles hurt?

Some people may be more sensitive to the puncture, but sensations of pain are rather rare. When inserting the needle, it is possible to feel something like a small insect bite which fades in 2-3 seconds or even not feel anything upon insertion. At the puncture site, if you feel warmth, heaviness or a little tingling, this is a sign that the needle is doing its job well!

Are there any side effects to acupuncture?

No, acupuncture has no side effects.

Note that treatments like acupuncture often expose your internal state: If your energy level is low, you may feel tired following the treatment. Be attentive and mindful of this and go to bed early that evening.

In cases of musculoskeletal problems , it is important to talk about the healing curve. The path to wellness is rarely a straight line forward; there may be variations in sensations and pain levels following treatment. This evolution is completely normal; take note of the sensations as these indications will help your acupuncturist adapt the next treatment according to your specific situation.
